Ready for unlimited fun on the slopes? For an extra dose of adrenaline, thrills, and freedom? The Harakiri slope on the Action Mountain Penken, in Mayrhofen, isn’t only the “blackest” run in Zillertal, but also the steepest slope in the whole of Austria. With a remarkable 78% gradient, it’s even steeper than a ski jumping hill! If you successfully master the slope, you can toast your achievement in the Harakiri Bar, the “steepest bar in Zillertal”, and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains. Are you an experienced skier who doesn’t shy away from anything? Then jump right into the adventure and head up the Harakiri slope!

All kinds of interesting facts

Good preparation is the basis for every success. That’s why we’ve collected the most important and interesting facts about the Harakiri slope for you.

The Harakiri, slope nr. 34, was opened in the 2003/04 winter season and still offers the steepest slope experience in Austria today. To reach it, take the Penkenbahn cable car right next to our hotel in Mayrhofen. The actual slope is located below the Knorren 6-seater cable car and stretches over 2km; the steepest part measures 400m. Speaking of steep slopes: they can only be prepared with a winch and a specially designed snow groomer. Snowmaking is also only possible with a complex layering process. This is the only way to guarantee that the artificial snow will stay and the slope, offering you smooth conditions on the Harakiri, in the Penken area.
